Nelson Carreyo LL.M.
Born
in Panama June 12, 1951. Graduated as Infrantry Second Liutenant
officer from Venezuela and Helicopter Pilot from Fort Walters,
Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama. In the Judiciary was the main
clerk of the Civil Branch of the Supreme Court of Justice. Elected
as the first Admiralty Judge of Panama after the signature of
the Torrijos-Carter Canal Treaties. He held this post during 4
years (1982-1986).
Permanent
Representaive from Panama to the International Maritime Organization
(IMO) in London and Legal Counsel for the Embassy of Panamá
in the United Kingdom (1979 –1982).
Holds
a Diploma in Maritime Law from University College London. Took
courses in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Obtained a Master
Degree in Law and Marine Sciences from the University of Washington
with the Hubert Humphrey/Fullbright Program.
Professor
of Law since 1985. Wrote the books Commercial Law (1996) and Maritime
Jurisprudence (1985). Author of many articles and Conferences
in Panama and abroad. Member of the National Bar Association,
Director of the School of Law of Universidad Latinoamericana de
Ciencia y Tecnología (ULACIT) 1994-1998 and first Director
of the Legal Consultory of that University where also finished
doctoral studies in Management Sciences pending Thesis.
President
of the National Association for the Protection and Defense of
the Consumer and the Environment (ANAPRODECA) NGO recognized by
the National Authority for Consumer Protection. Vice-President
for Panama of the Iberoamerican Institute of Maritime Law.
